Many assumed the Detroit Red Wings top target this summer would be Ryan Suter, with the potential of Nicklas Lidstrom retiring. However the Edmonton Journal’s Jim Matheson thinks Zach Parise is actually their No. 1 option. He writes, “The Wings lack of offensive pop against Nashville hammered home their need to sign Zach Parise.”
Parise will certainly explore his options the Minnesota Wild are a wildcard option that might win out in the end but the Wings will have some cap space to burn, so they will be able to make a strong bid for him. Also Parise has stated that he is ‘super impressed with the Wings’ so maybe that will help any talks go smoothly. That said, General Manager Ken Holland isn’t known for spending big on free agents, so if the bidding pushes the price too high, he make look at other options.
